Politically Incorrect

Do you think the woman's reservation bill is a good idea? I don't think it is going to change anything on the ground. I oppose it for the same reason that I oppose the OBC/SC/ST reservation bills. I think these guys are solving the wrong problem. Just by giving the "minorities"/"oppressed sex" more visibility in various fields does not help the lady who is being beaten up every day by her drunk husband or the kid who is not allowed to go to school coz she is a girl. Also, being a woman doesn't qualify them for my vote.

I think not allowing men to stand from a constituency would be against the right to choose of the people of that constituency. Just because someone is a woman doesn't give them a purity stamp. Mayawati is as rotten as Mulayam/Kalyan singh. It is just that there are more rotten male politicians than female ones.

All this will do is give 33% of the seats to wives of politicians. Man! some times being politically correct is a pain in the ass.

Very True ! if woman being the leaders had to solve anyting UP with Mayawati and Bihar with Rabri had ample time to turn around woman issues and rights !

The system will not give the right women a chance to participate in the political process and only enable politicial wives and family ladies to become puppets ! very cynical :o)

hmm..i am not against reservation -see the way some people have suffered (including sc/st/obc) and you will realise how much it can help them

but yes, I have noticed that in recent years most reservation seats are mis-used. It is the cream of the "minority" who typically use those seats, going against the fundamental belief of giving everyone a fair chance. I would get so pissed off seeing my SC/ ST classmates goof off and smoke up all year round cos they knew life was easy for them.

But again, not fair to say EVERYONE misuses it. You do raise some good points here nevertheless...

@ Manu - I know which Dilbert toon you are talking about :)

@ Austere - Yup!

@ Cynic - Sad bloody world...

@ Santosh - being cynical is what we do right? we are the middle class after all!

@ Trauma Queen - My perspective is not from the people who are going to get reservation...I agree reservation does help people, the point is the parameter to decide who gets reservation is wrong. If they retain the same quota of reservation but give it to only the people who financially can't afford education etc..I am all for it.
