Auto Riknomics

Had my first couple of microeconomics classes last weekend. Interesting view point on the Auto wale Bhaiyas

Well, all of us have heard atleast one story of a good Samaritan cab driver in Dubai/Japan/US who waved off some waiting charge or gave a discount or some such and look at the auto wallahs in Bangalore...

Economist's reasoning - well compare (the discount/earnings per day) for each of them - The Guy abroad gave you the discount because he could afford it.

Okay then why are the Auto wallah's in Chennai much worse than the ones in Bangalore?

Economist's reasoning - The Chennai public transportation system is much better than that of Bangalore. So the number of customers for the Chennai driver is reduced to the people who need the Auto urgently or do not want to use the public transport.

All a matter of demand and supply!! ;)

P.S. This is what I understood from the discussion...may not be the verbatim transcript of what happened in the class!

The last walk

All you can see is the bright sunlight reflecting on the windowpane. The 6 foot tall man standing next to you is as fragile as a 6 year old. He holds on to your arm, afraid you might let him go. All you can think of is the man. He has been with you every time you dared to dream. He was responsible for each moment of regret in your heart. Each time you thought "I can not do this anymore", his chest welled up with pride and happiness.

The light is bright and you squint to shield your eyes. The man thinks it is another day out for him in the safety of your mind. You reach the bus stop and wait for the bus. You push him under the bus and look at him disappear.

You can feel the breeze on your face and in your hair. You are free now. Free of all your fears and inhibitions. All you needed to do was be fearless of failure. Now you are ready to take on the world...

Junk food for thot

The problem with religion is that it has become a belief system from it's actual state of an idea!

An idea is something you can grow and refine, while belief is something you die for just to keep it alive.

The difference is the same as between creation and destruction.

For what it is worth...

The 12 year old, gazes out of his mud hut. Waiting for the constable to come visit the boy's neighbor. She is the pretties girl of the village. Ever since the drought the cop has used his connections to help get her some food.

The constable arrives on his bicycle with some rice and dal. He waits outside his sweetheart's home. No body answers. He can see the figure of a hungry 12 year old standing in the shadows. The boy tells the cop "Sahab ji, Didi bol ke gayi thi ki raat ko der ho jayegi." The boy doesn't know where has she gone. The constable starts to head back but he can feel a pair of eyes staring into his back. He turns around and gives the food to the boy.

The boy can't see the constable leaving. The kids vision is blurred by his own tears. He goes back inside to feed his 2 year old sister. He eats as much as he can. He will need all his strength to bury Didi's body lying in the backyard.

UPDATE - based on some comments I figure you think I have lost my mind....well I think the post is self explanatory if you consider it is based on this photograph.

The glass house

He is stuck there between the glass walls, watching the world go by. He longs for the walls to slide down so that he can fly away into oblivion. Hoping he doesn’t suffer the same fate as his brothers, hoping he never hears the sound of death.

CLAP! Another mosquito killed in the car.
